My name is Cayla, a naturopathic medicine graduate from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine.
Born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario, I always had the mindset that I would return to the north one day to help improve the wellness within this beautiful community – I’m happy that day has finally arrived!
I have been passionate about health, wellness and fitness for as long as long as I can remember. After completing a Bachelor of science degree, I developed a love for research and went on to complete a Master of Science degree in biology from Western University (Canada). My graduate studies allowed me to expand on my critical thinking skills by working with world-renowned research teams in the USA. While I have an evidence based approach to treating patients, I firmly believe that the cornerstones to health must also take into account the mind-body connection – an area commonly overlooked in our medical system. This holistic approach can often be the keystone piece to achieving long-term sustainable health results.
As a part of my medical training, I completed clinical internships in a variety of healthcare settings, which provided me with a unique breadth of experiences in treating different demographics of patients. These settings included: the Robert Schad Naturopathic Clinic in Toronto, the Brampton Civic Hospital, the Lakeshore Community Health Centre in Etobicoke and two internships at Naturopathic Clinics in the city of Sudbury. I also had the opportunity to work with Naturopathic Doctors Without Borders in the country of Haiti, where I collaborated with local community clinics and practiced naturopathic principles for treating many communicable conditions.
As part of my clinical internships in Toronto, I was selected to be an intern on the Adjunctive Cancer Care focus shift where I received extra training working with individuals suffering from an active or past diagnosis of cancer. With Sudbury having the highest cancer mortality rates in Ontario, I felt compelled and honoured to gain clinical research-based knowledge in helping to manage symptoms of people living with this devastating diagnosis. I was also selected to be an intern on the Be Your Best Self weight management program where we empowered patients with knowledge, tools and workshops to help them achieve long term weight maintenance success. My other personal interests reside in hormone balancing for men & women, neurology, skin & anti-aging, digestive and autoimmune diseases.
My passion for health extends to fitness and the mind-body connection through yoga and sports medicine. I am a marathon runner, ballet Barre enthusiast and certified yoga instructor where I currently teach yoga classes at ARC Fitness Studio in Sudbury. In my spare time, I can often be found running, cycling and roller-blading around the city or spending time at my camp knitting, hiking, swimming and paddling.
I’m excited to translate my knowledge and experiences in helping you live the fullest life you can through an integrated, holistic and research-based approach to health – naturopathic medicine.
